The problem

A pattern we've watched too many times.

Year after year, we have watched Indigenous communities across this country be approached by companies that serve outside interests far more than they serve the community. We have seen trust broken, we have seen opportunities exploited, and we have seen good people left behind.

The pattern is consistent: outside expertise arrives with a deal, advice is sold, the deal closes, the consultants leave. What's left behind is usually less than what was promised—sometimes a great deal less.

Our commitment

Empowering communities to lead their own development.

Neechi-Wâgan was founded to combat these discrepancies. We seek to empower Indigenous communities with expert knowledge, strategic guidance, and hands-on execution. The objective is straightforward: development, sustainability, and self-determination.

That last word is the one that matters most. Self-determination means the community owns the decisions. Our job is to help the community acquire the information, the expertise, and the capacity to make those decisions well, and to deliver on them when the time comes.

i.

Development

Expert proposal review, strategic advisory, and capacity building for communities to be able to lead the projects shaping their future.

ii.

Sustainability

Financial planning, governance support, and partnerships built to outlast a single project cycle.

iii.

Self-determination

Decisions made by the community, not for it. Our job is to bring expertise; yours is to choose.

The name

Built into the brand.

The company is named in Cree because the work begins in Cree-speaking communities. The full name is kept exactly as the partners wrote it — the circumflex on the â stays, on every surface, in every context.
